Gotta get it done. Another item checked off the to-do list. No time to sit, no time to rest, no time to think—just keep moving.
It seems in today’s wired world we are always connected, always on the go, always striving towards that next goal. There is never a quiet moment.
What ever happened to the afternoon nap?
Is such a luxury the epitome of laziness by today’s standards?
But just think of the possibilities…
Close your eyes for a short 15-minutes. Turn off the computer, silence your smart phone, and quiet the “gotta get it done” thoughts bombarding your consciousness.
What’s the worst thing that could happen?
Maybe you’ll catch a few winks; more likely you’ll just enjoy a few minutes of quiet time. Great thinkers say their best ideas popped out of nowhere while they practiced quiet time. Taking an afternoon break may be the most profitable thing you can do! Worst-case scenario, I guarantee you’ll feel better facing the demands of the rest of your day.
Give it a try… close your eyes, breathe deeply, relax and enjoy some quiet time. It’ll be good for your soul.
Until next time,
P.S. Thanks to Casper and Rocky for showing me how the afternoon nap is done.
