The Color Orange: Glass Works 13

The color orange excites the senses. Orange invigorates the body and stimulates mental activity.

Desire, creativity, emotion, pleasure, and intimacy…these are all terms associated with the flamboyant color orange.

Color therapists use orange to promote joy and counteract depression.

Orange is the color of the extrovert, the adventurer and risk-taker.

Orange also connotes a creative flair, a sense of enthusiasm, and spontaneity.

And as Frank Sinatra once said, “Orange is the happiest color.”

Colors are known to invoke an emotional response, impact mood, and even have healing powers.

As a photographer, I challenged myself to create images that featured a dominant color chosen for its beneficial characteristics.

The Color Brown… Stability-Depth-Elegance

The Color Brown

Colors are known to invoke an emotional response, impact mood, and even have healing powers.

Brown is the color of the earth. It creates a connection with all things natural, and imparts a wholesome feeling.

Brown is also associated with the material side of life. It’s believed if you dream of the color brown you will be lucky with money.

American Indians believe the color brown represents the power of self-discipline. Brown brings us back down to earth by calming our emotions and arousing common sense.

Brown is the color of choice when you are looking to create a sense of warmth, naturalness and dependability.

As a photographer, I challenged myself to create images that featured a dominant color chosen for its beneficial characteristics.

The images Water Works 03, Glass Works 01, and Glass Works 18 feature the qualities of the color brown.

The Color Blue—Calm and Comforting

The Color Blue

Colors are known to invoke an emotional response, impact mood, and even have healing powers.

Blue symbolizes trust, wisdom, intelligence, faith, and truth.

Quiet, peace and serenity are all equated to the color blue. Just think of relaxing on the beach with an ocean of cool, calm, blue water stretching out as far as the eye can see.

The color blue helps you wind down and rest as it relaxes your muscles and quiets the mind.

Blue is also the color of spirituality and thought. Blue counters chaos and agitation bringing peace and serenity to the troubled mind.

Blue is also known to open the flow of communication and broaden one’s perspective to learn new information.

As a photographer, I challenged myself to create images that featured a dominant color chosen for its beneficial characteristics.

The images Glass Works 08 and Water Works 09 feature blue.

Is there is a space in your home or business that would benefit from the characteristics of the color blue? If so, I invite you to take a closer look at these two photographs, as well as other images featuring blue, by following the links below.

Characteristics Of The Color Purple

Water Works 01
Water Works 01: The Color Purple

Colors are known to invoke an emotional response and impact mood.

As a photographer I challenged myself to create a series of images that were more about the colors in the image, than the subject I was photographing.

Each Waterworks image is lit by a dominant color mixed with as many as four complimentary colors to invoke an emotional response. Additionally, the patterns, shapes and textures created by the splashing water drops create a visually entertaining image.

I employed purple as the dominant color to create Water Works 01.

The deep, soft, color purple is associated with nobility and spirituality.  It was the favorite color of Egypt’s Cleopatra and often worn by nobility.

Wealth and romance are also deemed characteristics of purple.

Purple is an unusual color that possesses both warm and cool properties. Featuring purple in a room will stimulate imagination and boost creativity.

This dignified color is also noted for its calming influence. Color therapists use purple to lower blood pressure, and to detoxify the body. This effect is further enhanced by the gold tones incorporated into this image.

Purple certainly has characteristics that qualify it as a Good Soul Stuff color.

Would you benefit from a little purple in your life? Prints of WaterWorks 01 are available by following the links below.
